"Teri zaat paak hai ya-rab, tu chahe to farsh ki khaaq ko utha ke arsh ka sitara bana de aur agar tu chahe to taro se unki roshni cheen ke unke wajood ko mita de. Tere siwa kio nhi jo kisi ko uruj ya zawal de sake, tere siwa koi nhi jo kisi ko mushkilo me daal sake ya mushkilo se nikal sake... Meri bhi madad kar de mere malik, mere moola-e-kareem, beshak tu hi karam karne wala hala hai. Tune Hazrat Ibraheem (AS) ko atish-e-Namrood me jalne nhi diya, tune us aag ko gulzaar kar diya. Tune tufaan mein Hazrat Nuh (AS) ki kashti ko paar laga diya. Tune Hazrat Yusuf (AS) ko qaid-khane se nikaal ke Misr ke takht par bitha diya. Tune Hazrat Ayyub (AS) ko unke sabr se aazmaya aur dobara unhe har neymat se nawaza. Tune Hazrat Uzair (AS) ko maut ke baad dobara zindagi di... Tere liye kya mushkil hai mere malik? Kuch nhi... Beshak kuch bhi nhi... Tere liye sab kuch asaan hai, tu mere liye bhi asaniyan kar de. Tujhe kisi sahare ki zarurat nhi lekin mujhe tera sahara chahiye mere parwardigaar. Mujhe tera sahara chahiye. Meri madad farma mere malik."

A pair of drops of fresh tears slipped down from her eyes and she concluded her prayer before going to bed. A smile crept to her lips when saw her husband embracing Anaya. Kissing her puffy cheek she laid down embracing her lovingly. "Athar," she whispered.

"Atharr..." This time she shook him and he opened his eyes. "Yeah?"

"Only fifteen minutes are left in sunrise, pray fajr," she told him and closed her eyes while pulling Anaya close to herself. This girl was becoming the reason for her strength and power. She found peace in her. When she lies in her embrace this broken woman feels like the strongest woman ever. She was about to sleep when a pair of lips landed on her cheek forcing her to open her eyes.

"Love you Janu Manu..." she giggled and closed her eyes again, she just loved the way he used different yet weird names for her. After some time slumber started to consume her slowly when a small groan disturbed her. The eight-month-old girl wiggled in Madiha's arms and started moving.

"Kya hua, bachhe? Soo kyu nhi rhi hain aap?" patting the back of her daughter she muttered and again closed her eyes because now she wanted to sleep but her daughter wanted to play with her mother.

(What happened, baby? Why aren't you sleeping?)

"Anaya... Soone do beta." with a sleepy mumble she again closed her eyes but soon the girl slipped away from her arms. She suddenly opened her eyes and again closed them when found Athar picking her in his arms.

The father-daughter duo were playing with small gestures and laughing together when the mother was fast asleep but her slumber was short-lived because soon the chuckles of this little girl became louder than before resulting in her father also laughing wholeheartedly.

"Aap dono abba beti mujhe soone dijiye. Sunday hi to free milta hai thoda araam karne ke liye." Madiha muttered but Athar just ignored her demand because he was focusing on his little princess instead of the queen.

(Both of you, father and daughter, let me sleep. I only get Sundays to rest.)

"But this father-daughter gets only Sunday to spend time together," Athar told Anaya in a childish and playful voice to get a few more chuckles and Madiha turned her back towards them before placing a pillow over her head that eventually limit the voices and light, as a result, she dozed off.

After one hour she opened her eyes, and now she was feeling better and fresh. Turning her side she smiled at the scene. Athar was sleeping with a half-open mouth and Anaya was sleeping on his chest, her little fists grabbing the buttons of his shirt.

She had prayed countless times to be blessed with a baby girl, she always wanted to show her love to her child and now she had been getting this chance.

"Madiha, kab tak sooti rahogi?" a voice from outside the room fell in her ears and she walked into the bedroom of her mother-in-law.

(Madiha, how long will you sleep?)

"Anaya soone hi kaha de rhi hai, Ammi... Dono abba beti preshan kar rhe the aur ab khud araam se soo gye." Madiha muttered in a sleepy voice.

(Anaya is not letting me sleep, ammi... Both father and daughter were troubling me and now they slept peacefully.)

"Maine chai bana li thi tum dono ke liye."

(I already made tea for both of you.)

"Aap kaam kyu karti hain Ammi?" Madiha asked while grabbing the cup of tea passed by her mother-in-law. I

(Why do you work in the kitchen ammi?)

"Athar ko bulati hu..." Madiha turned to go but her mother-in-law shook her head. "Soon do use."

(I'm going to summon Athar.)

(let him see)

"Nhi, unhone mujhe nhi soone diya ab main unhe nhi sone dungi." holding stubbornness she walked to her bedroom and shook his arm.

(No, they didn't let me sleep, now I won't let them sleep.)

"Uth jaiye janab, aapki Ammi ne aapke liye chai bana li hai."

(Wake up dear, your mother has already made tea for you. )

"Tum bhi soo jao, Ammi se bhi keh do wo bhi soo jaye... Sunday ko jaldi uthna gunah hai." adjusting the sleeping Anaya in his arms he turned his side and Madiha huffed.

(Tell Ammi to take a nap and you too sleep. It's a sin to wake up early on Sundays.)

"Athar..." she pulled a face and sat beside him. "hmm?" a sleepy response.

"Aap bhul gye na?" she placed her hand on his shoulder and "What?" he hummed without opening his eyes.

(have you forgotten?)

"Wada kra tha aapne, Sunday ko mujhe kahi ghumane le kar jayenge aur lunch bhi bahar karenge..." replacing her hand with chin she whispered and Athar opened his eyes.

(You had promised that you would take me on Sunday for an outing and lunch...)

"I remember, we will go for a movie followed by lunch and shopping too."

"Only movie and lunch are fine, don't waste money on shopping," Madiha suggested and Athar slowly left Anaya from his arm before sitting up on the bed.

"Maybe you don't but my daughter needs new clothes and shoes, and you don't have to worry about money, earning bread and butter for this home is my responsibility, you're already doing more than enough." Madiha kept watching this man who earned a small amount of money every month, but he was earning love and respect in bulk. Indeed that is the precious thing.

"What happened?" he asked when she didn't avert her eyes from his face. "Nothing, come for breakfast," she muttered and Athar grimaced.

"Ziddi aurat, karti wo hi ho jo tumhe karna hota hai." fake glaring at his wife he stepped out of the bed and Madiha smiled as she felt lucky to have a man who was happy to see her.

(Stubborn woman, you do whatever you want.)

"Zidd karke shadi kri thi na aapne, ab meri zido ko pura karna aapki zimmedari hai."

(this marriage was your stubbornness, now you will have to fulfil all my stubbornness.)

"Aji aapki har zidd hamare sar aakho par," Pulling her into a quick hug he muttered and walked to the bathroom but not before getting the mandatory kiss on his cheek from his wife.

(It will be my pleasure, my lady.)

<><><>

"Ammi chaliye na aap bhi," Madiha demanded but her mother-in-law shook her head.

(Ammi, let's join us.)

"Nahi bhai, main ghar mein baith ke Allah Allah krungi, mujhe nhi jana film me." Said the sensible lady without leaving tasbih (rosary) from her hand.

(No, I am not interested in films and all, I would like to do some prayers while staying at home.)

"Saas ke sath kon movie date pr jata hai?" Asked Athar after stepping out of the home and Madiha jerked her head.

(Who goes for a movie date with a mother-in-law?)

"Oh come on Athar... She also deserves an outing. And we are not going for a romantic movie, it's a comedy film, Ammi could join us."

"Tumhe teacher hona chahiye tha, hamesha lessons deti rehti ho. Ustanji saheba." Athar rolled his eyes and Madiha jerked her head while side straddling on the scooter.

(You should have been a teacher, you are always giving lessons.)

"Aap jese students kabhi nhi sudharte."

(Students like today never improve.)

"Qadar kro mere talent ki." starting the scooter he demanded and Madiha huffed but held him tightly while maintaining her balance.

(Appreciate my talent.)

"Is talent ko begairti kehte hain."

(This talent is called absurdity.)

"Madiha, tumhare andar ye talent nhi hai to tum mujhse jal rhi ho?" Madiha blinked blankly and looked at this man who was riding the scooter but not leaving his playful nature.

(Madiha, you don't have this talent, so you are jealous of me?

"Athar aap road pr focus kriye, warna..." Madiha tried to sound offended but she was suppressing her laughter.

(Focus on the road otherwise...)

"What?" he asked and this time Anaya slapped his fathar's back with her little palm that made Madiha laugh. "See, this is what I was wondering to do."

"Ye to bada masla ho gya, ghar me 3 aurte aur main ek lauta mardzaat, kya haal krogi mera tum teeno mil kar?"

(That's a big issue, there will be three women in the house but I'm the only man, what will all three of you do with me altogether?)

"Ji, Bas dar ke rahiyega..." he chuckled and focused on the road.

(Just be afraid of us?)

<><><>

A pile of files present on the table top, numerous papers were scattered near while she was reading only one. Inhalation of some more facts present on the papers only gave fule to the fire already burning in her heart. Before she could think of anything else the voice of footsteps grabbed her attention.

"Ye sab kya chal rha hai, Danish?" She asked loudly when the tall man stepped into the bedroom

(What's all this going on, Danish?)

"Kis se puch ke mere saman mein ghusi ho tum?" he shouted while glaring at his wife but he was still unable to digest the fact that she wasn't Madiha to tolerate everything silently. She was Gohar who knew tit for tat.

(What the hell are you doing with my stuff?)

"Chikhiye mat, sawal ka jawab dijiye. Ye sab kya chal rha hai?" she shouted back and Danish grit his teeth "It's none of your business."

(Don't shout. Answer my question. What is all this going on?)

"If it is none of my business then whose business is this when my husband is going after his ex-wife?" Gohar shouted and Danish gave her a cold shoulder. For the next few moments he stared at her without saying a single word and then stepped towards the bed after saying in a cold voice "Tamasha na kro."

(Don't create a scene)

Picking up his son from the bed Danish kissed his face and embraced him lovingly. He laughed while playing with his son and Gohar's patience gave up.

(My son's birthday is coming...)

"Tamasha main kar rhi hu ya aap? Jab use talaq de chuke to kyu wapas lana hai use? " she shouted and Danish glared at her.

(Is it me or you who is making a scene? When you have divorced her then why bring her back?)

"Ye jo teri zaban kechi jesi chalti hai na uski nhi chalti thi, mere ek ishare par mera har kaam karti thi wo... Ghanto mere hath peyr dabati rehti thi, teri tarha nhi jo ek glass pani bhi na de."

(She didn't argue with me like you do. She did everything for me in one gesture of my eye... She kept pressing my feet for hours, not like you, she didn't even give me a glass of water.)

"Agar wo itni hi achhi thi to mujhse shadi kyu ki thi? Aur agar us se koi dukh nhi tha to use janwaro ki tarha marte kyu the?" Gohar shouted

(Why did you marry me if she was so good? And why did you beat her like animals if she was so nice?)

"Wo janwaro ki tarha pit kar bhi is tarha behes nhi karti thi..."

(even after being beaten by me like an animal she never argued like you.)

"Theek hai, le aaiye use wapas." she nodded while turning back, for a moment Danish felt he won an argument but he again forgot the fact that the person opposite to him was Gohar.

(okay, bring her back.)

She picked the suitcase and started stuffing her clothes into it. Taking her son from Danish's arms she glared at him... "Jis biwi ki yaad aa rhi hai aulaad bhi wo hi de degi, ye mera bachcha hai." Knowing very well that Hamza was Danish's weakness, Gohar lay hand on his sore spot.

(Take a child from that wife whom you're missing. This is my child.)

"Gohar ye kya naya drama hai?"

(Gohar what's this new drama?)

"Drama shuru aapne kiya hai khatam main karungi. Court aur talakh kheel hain na aapke liye... Main bhi bhejti hu ek talaq ka notice, sirf talaq ka nhi is property me hisse ka, maintainable bhi..."

(you have started this drama but I will be the one to finish it. You enjoy the gameplay of court and divorce, right? Now I'll let you play this game, I'm going to send you a divorce notice and bring you in front of court for my share in your property and maintenance. Just wait and watch.)

"Gohar, meri baat suno." Danish grabbed her arm. "Tum kahi nhi jaa rahi, yahi rahogi tum isi ghar me mere sath." taking Hamza back in his arms he muttered and pulled his wife into a forced hug.

(Listen to me.)

(you are not going anywhere, you will stay with me only)

Gohar didn't take time to change her decision, she hugged this man back and cried out. However, she was not going to leave this home, she was not from those who vacate their position, She belonged to the group of people who seize other's position.

She knew each and every sour point of her husband, so she use different tactics to manipulate him. She knew very well when to show her tears, when to show her anger and when to show affection with passionate love to control this man.

"Aap bohot buri hain, aapke liye sab kuch karti hu lekin aap meri qadr hi nhi karte." Said Gohar with tears and he pulled her closer, his hand caressing her head which was resting on his chest.

(you never appreciate my efforts, no matter whatever I do for you.)

"Aese na roya kro, tayyar ho jao, khana bahar khayenge aaj." Danish offered an outing not to uplift her mood but because he knew this woman, he knew how would she show her true colors if her silent demands stayed unfulfilled. He knew, she was the owner of a strong willed heart with a clever mind, she not only says but does what no one could imagine. She could go to the court and made his difficult.

(Don't cry like this. Get ready, we will go out for dinner.)

"Apni pehli biwi ko wapas layenge?" Gohar asked with tearfilled eyes, Danish sighed and shook his head.

(Will you bring your ex-wife back?)

"Uski shadi ho chuki hai, tumhe lagta hai wo ab wapas ayegi? Lekin usne mera itna waqt barbad kra hai thoda main bhi to uska waqt barbad kru." Said Danish while breaking the hug and Gohar wiped her tears. She wasn't from those who cry, she was from those who make others cry.

(She is already married, do you really think she will come back? But she had wasted my time so now it's my turn.)

"Aap baat mat kriye mujhse, mere bete ko dijiye" Taking her son from his arm she walked out of the room but not before telling him that she was getting ready for the dinner but wanted to do shopping too and Danish missed Madiha one more time.

(Don't talk to me. Give my son back)

He never knew that he would crave to be with that woman whom he never appreciated. Sometimes he secretly regrets being so cruel to Madiha, sometimes he missed seeing her sleeping beside himself, sometimes he remembered her cooking and sometimes her presence in his bed.

In his eyes, Madiha was his... She couldn't be with any other man.

Every time he burnt in the hell of jealousy whenever imagine her with someone else. He didn't tolerate any man's gaze towards Madiha,  he felt something burning inside him whenever a man just saw her but now he was getting mad. Madiha with someone else? No way. How could any man touch his favourite toy? No man should get what was entitled to be his.

He does not care if she came back or not but she should be away from any other man. That's it.

=======

"Ice cream khaogi ya popcorn?" he asked while holding her hand tightly and she gave him a disappointed look. "Dono nhi mil sakte?"

(Would you like to have ice cream or popcorn?)

(can't I get both?)

"Arey aapke liye to hamare jaan o dil sab hazir hain ye ice cream or popcorn kya cheez hain... Bas aap yu naraz na hua kro." he said while controlling his desire to pull her into his arms.

(My heart and soul are all present for you, what are these ice cream and popcorn... just don't get upset.)

"Aapko farkh padta hai mere naraz hone se?"

(Do you really care me getting angry with you?)

"Meri ek hi biwi hai, uske naraz hone se farkh nhi padega to kiske naraz hone se padega..." she looked at her husband with an ocean of love in her eyes and then her daughter who was also smiling looking at this man.

(Darling, I have only one wife, if not hers then whose anger would affect me?)

"Pta hai Athar, kabhi kabhi yaqeen karna mushkil ho jata hai ki ye sab sach hai, sab kuch khwab jesa lagta hai." she shrugged and he sighed.

(You know what Athar, sometimes it's difficult to believe that it's reality. It seems like a dream.)

"Beleive it, darling. It's no dream." he passed popcorn and ice cream towards Madiha while entering the big theatre. "Now don't think about dreams, . Just focus on the movie," he whispered and kissed his daughter's cheek.

"Pehle start to hone dijiye" she whispered back.

("Let it start first.)

"Hmm... Just five minutes." he whispered and soon the lights turned off. Anaya was quiet when the big screen was showing some names but as soon as the loud music began her song without lyrics also began to rise in the air. Athar and Madiha tried their best to hush her but eventually they had to leave the theatre within first five minutes of the movie.

Anaya was a peaceful girl who doesn't cry usually but today her parents got to know that that she couldn't tolerate noisy environment.

Leaving the film now Athar and Madiha were roaming here and there to pass their time and after a spare of time they both decided to take rest in a park.

"Kya hua, bura lag rha hai?" He asked and Madiha shrugged.

(What happened, feeling bad?)

"I don't know Athar, I just want to hug you right now." Madiha whispered while soaking her unshed tears in her voice. It was the first time when she went for a movie but ended up on the bench of a park. Athar wrapped his arm around her shoulders and pulled her in a hug.

"This is another phase of life, enjoy it. We will watch this movie tonight." Athar rested her head on his chest. His one hand was protectively carrying his daughter and the other hand was holding Madiha's head against his chest. "I love you, Jaanu Manu." he whispered.

Madiha smiled and felt his fingers on her cheeks over her niqab. He slowly uncovered her face and cleaned her tears that was the testimony of the breaking of her little dream.

"Remove it, take some deep breath and relax your brain." he didn't want to separate his wife because he knew she was tensed for last ten days. Danish was sending legal notices one after another that were disturbing this woman but she was not sharing her feelings and fear with anyone, eventually stressing herself too much silently.

"Athar..." she didn't open her eyes.

"yes my love?"

"Stay with me forever, I can't live without you and Anaya."

"Do you really think that I can stay away from you? Be strong my lioness, I'm always with you. You need to set an example in front of Anaya that her mother is a strong lady." this time Madiha opened her eyes to see her daughter. She did not remove her head from Athar's chest but cupped Anaya's face.

"You two are my strength but weakness too. I feel strong when I think about you two, I feel the need to win this battle but I feel weak when I think about losing you two." She muttered while closing her eyes, Athar wiped her tears and tightened his grip.

"We are not leaving you at any cost. So don't think about the negative possibility. Just focus on us. Yaar you have got such a handsome and loving husband but you don't even glance at him lovingly." this time Madiha giggled but did not opened her eyes.

"Achha? Aap handsome hain? Ye galatfehmi kese ho gyi aapko?" she muttered to tease him and Athar smiled while wiping the tear drop present on her right cheek.

(Really? Are you handsome? How did you get this misunderstanding?)

"Ye galatfehmi mujhe usi raat ho gyi thi jab aap apne soote huye shohor ki zulfo se kheel rhi thi."

(I had this misunderstanding the same night when you were playing with your husband's hair while he was sleeping.)

"Aap soo nhi rhe the?" she was a bit surprised and Athar tightened his grip a little around her shoulders.

(weren't you sleeping?)

"kya hua tabiyat kharab hai kya?" Asked an old lady while sitting beside Madiha, and Athar nodded his head. Listening to this voice Madiha opened her eyes.

(What happened to her? Is she ill?)

"Ji tabiyat kuch theek nhi hai, Chakkar aa rhe hain." Athar lied, but Madiha did not feel comfortable to sit in the same position anymore, making a little space herself and Athar, she took a deep breath.

(Yeah, she is not feeling fine, she is feeling dizzy)

"Aaj kal to bimariyan aam ho gyi hain, kuch khaya piya karo beta, kamzori se aate hain chakkar."

(Nowadays diseases have become common, eat healthy, dizzy happens because of weakness.)

"Arey tauba kriye aunty, dudh dekh ke to ye wese hi behosh ho jati hain, chai inhe din me 100 baat bhi de do to kam hai." Athar taunted to get a glare from his wife.

(Don't say this aunty, she could pass out coming in the contact milk, but she can have tea a hundred times in a day.)

"Nhi beta, galat baat hai, apna dhyan nhi rakhogi to bachhi ko kese dekhogi? Dhyan do apni sehat par warna hamari umar me aa kar hadiya kamzor ho jayengi." Madiha was only nodding on this free advise, and elbowing her husband for this arranging this le lecture.

(That's not good dear, how will you look after your child if you don't take care of yourself. Pay attention to your health otherwise your bones will become weak when you get old.)

"Arey aunty ye baate in par asar nhi karti."

(Aunty, these things don't affect her.)

The old lasy gave a disappointed look to Madiha who just passed a weak smile, and the lady looked at Athar. "Dudh ke sath dry fruit laddu likhao inhe, aur khud bhi khao."

"Wo kese bante hain aunty? Aap inhe hi bata dijiye, kal hi banwata hu." Athar got a glare from his wife who was already giving him dry fruits everyday.

(Tell her the recipe, I'll bring the ingredients tomorrow only.)

Poor madiha was sitting in the park writing down the home remedies from that aunty who knew everything about human anatomy without any degree. One after another she told at least six home remedies for cold and cough, chest congestion in kids, hair growth, bone strength of kids, eye sight improvement and what not.

"Aunty har rooz aapke paas le aunga main inhe, aapki bate kitne dhyan se sun rhi hain, meri baat to kabhi nhi suni."

(Aunty I'll bring her to your daily, she is listening to you so keenly but never pays attention to my words.)

"Haan beta, le aana, main yahi park me walk karne aati hu har rooz," Said the lady and Athar got a token of love from his wife in the form of a kick on his leg. He was only smiling and Madiha was huffing in her thoughts.

(Yeah sure, I come to the park for a walk daily.)

For the next one hour Madiha was learning all those home remedies that she could use in upcoming 50 years. "Athar aaj aap ghar chaliye." Madiha threatened him and the old lady looked at them trying to understand what she said

(Let's go back home, then I'll see you.)

"Kya kaha?" the old lady said and Athar smirked.

(pardon)

"kuch nhi..." Madiha smiled and took her daughter from Athar, the little girl was now about to sleep.

(nothing.)

"Maa baap to dono gore hain bachi sawli kis par chali gyi?" The lady asked with a smile without any intention to hurt the couple but Madiha and Athar suddenly looked at each other.

(Both parents are fair, then whom does her dusky color resemble?)

"Abhi se dudh, haldi, besan aur chandan ka leyp kro, dekhna rang nikar jayega, ladkiyo ka rang kala ho to mushkil hoti hai." Said the lady and Madiha's patience gave up. She was fine when listening to everything but now this rubbish.

(Apply face pack made up of milk, gram flour, turmeric and sandalwood powder... You will see the visible difference. It's not good for girls to have a darker tone.)

"Aunty qismat chamkane ke liye bhi koi nuskha ho to bta dijiye, mene to gori ladkiyo ko bhi rote dekha hai..." the lady was unable to say anything after this. Madiha looked at Anaya and embraced her protectively. She doesn't want to brighten her color but her confidence and character.

(Is there any remedy to brighten the destiny too? Because I have seen white girls crying too.)

"Kuch nhi hota rang se, Allah meri beti ki qismat achhi kre." Mumbling that Madiha stood up while covering her face with the veil and Athar saw her walking away. For the first time she was ruse towards an elder and that was unexpected for him.

(Fair skin does no wonders, May Allah make her destiny beautiful.)

"Bura mat maniyega aunty, lekin kabhi kabhi hum kuch aesa keh jate hain jo dusro ko had se zyada dard de deta hai. Aapse mil ke achha laga, dobara kisi din phir mulaqat hogi." Athar also walked away with a smile and stopped near his scooter where Madiha was already waiting for him. She was hiding her tears but it was impossible as her husband knew everything.

(Don't mind her behaviour, sometimes we hurt others unknowingly. It was nice meeting you. See you again)

"Athar, kab tak hum ladkiyon ko rang aur khubsurati ke tarazu par naapte rahenge?"

(Athar, for how long will we measure girls on the scale of beauty and colour?)

"Mene to tumhari khubsurati nhi khubsirati dekhi thi..."

(but I saw your inner beauty, not the outer one.)

"You're the best, Aap jesa koi nhi ho sakta."

(no one can be like you.)

"Isi baat pe meri taraf se coffee date, mera banana cake khane ka dil chah rha hai." leaving the serious conversation Athar announced and Madiha grimaced.

(On this matter, I feel like having a coffee date and eating banana cake. )

"We have already wasted the money on the movie tickets, now forget everything. "

"Maddo please yaar..."

"Buy bananas, I'll make you cake as well as a nice coffee at home."

"Tum nhi sudhrogi na?"

(You won't change, right.)

"Irada to nhi hai." she smiled and he rolled his eyes while starting the scooter and his wife secured her seat.

(Never)

"Ziddi aurat" Athar started the scooter before mumbling.

(stubborn woman)

"Love you, khadoos aadmi."
